William "Bill" S. Koch

William "Bill" S. Koch, 94, died at 9:45 p.m., Saturday, January 9, 2021, at the Meadows of Kalida.  He was born December 26, 1926, in Glandorf, to Frederick and Veronica (Brinkman) Koch. 

On September 10, 1953, he married Mary E. Schroeder, as the first couple to be married in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Columbus Grove.  She preceded him in death on November 9, 1988.  Bill married Rita (Langhals) Recker on November 29, 1991.  Rita survives in Glandorf.

Bill is survived by four sons, Thomas (Deborah) Koch of Cincinnati, Kenneth (Kay) Koch and William S. (Cindy) Koch, Jr. both of Columbus Grove, and Frederick (Susan) Koch of Wapakoneta; two daughters, Janice (William) Grimes of Prairieville, LA and Sheila (Thomas) Hausknecht of Bluffton; three step-children, Daniel (Joyce) Recker of Dublin, Kevin (Wilma) Recker of Glandorf and Janice (Jeff) Hanneman of Columbus Grove; 21 grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren; a sister, Doris Horstman; and  brothers and sisters in-law, Julia Koch, Alice Koch, Bob (Marilyn) Hamburg, Elaine Schroeder, Kathy Schroeder, Sam (Anne) Schroeder, Irvin Schroeder, Delmar Schroeder, Gene (Rosemary) Langhals, Don (Joan) Langhals, Tom (Janice) Langhals and Dave (Deb) Langhals.

He was preceded in death by brothers and brothers in-law, Edward Koch, Richard (Doris) Koch, Joseph Koch, Donald Horstman, David Schroeder, Omer "Bud" Schroeder, and Jerry Langhals ; sisters and sisters in-law, Helen (Richard) Nussbaum, Ruth (Lee) Schroeder, Marie (Norbert) Schroeder, Clara (Paul) Nadler, Irene Hamburg, Anita (Virgil) Verhoff, Sr. Margery Schroeder, Sharon Schroeder and Margaret Schroeder.

Bill was a graduate of Glandorf High School.  He was a salesman for Imco Poultry and worked for  St. Anthony's Catholic Church.   Bill was also a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and he was the 1st Grand Knight of the  Knights of Columbus of St. Anthony's Parish. He served on St. Anthony's Parish Council, School Board and was a member of the choir. He had been a member of St. John's the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf, for 29 years.  Bill had been Mayor of Columbus Grove and served on the Village Council.

He enjoyed fishing and playing solo, pinochle and euchre.  Bill also enjoyed cooking, his specialties were caramel popcorn and  peanut brittle.  If he knew a song, he could play it on his harmonica. 

He truly loved people, never knowing a stranger,  he enjoyed visits with everyone he came in contact with.  Bill loved family reunions, catching up on family events and  reminiscing about the past.  He loved life and lived it to the fullest.  Bill was a bright spot in the lives of the residents and staff of the Meadows of Kalida.

The family would like to thank the Meadows of Kalida and the Putnam County Hospice for the excellent care they gave their husband, dad and grandfather.

Mass of Christian burial will begin at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, January 14, 2021, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Columbus Grove, and will also be on St. Anthony's Facebook live. Father John McLouglin, Father Tim Grimes, and Father David Ritchie will Concelebrate with burial to follow in St. Anthony's Church Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2:00-6:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 13, 2021, at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove, where a Rosary service will follow. 

Memorial contributions may be made to St Anthony's School.
