Sylvester Junior Closson

Sylvester Junior Closson, age 84, passed away on October 9, 2023 at his home in Columbus Grove surrounded by his family.  He was born on July 1, 1939 in Glandorf, Ohio to Sylvester M. Closson and Edna (Maenle) Closson who preceded him in death.  On September 24, 1960, he married Charlene Deatrick who survives.

Sylvester was the owner of Closson Plumbing and Heating in Ottawa, Ohio for 50 years.  He was a member of The Church of the Good Shepherd in Columbus Grove.  He was also a member of the Ottawa and Columbus Grove Eagles, Odd Fellows and Optimist International.  Sylvester enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife of 63 years, Sylvester is survived by his children, Rodney Closson, Loretta Nabors, Randy (Leslie) Closson and Raymond (Johanna) Closson.  He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Sylvester was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Mary Ann (Leonard) Cramer, his son and daughter-in-law Richard Milford Closson and Linda (Ridenour) Closson and his son-in-law Tom Nabors.

Visitation will be held at The Church of the Good Shepherd on Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. with services beginning at 2 p.m. with Pastor Keith Wilson officiating.  Burial will be at a later date in Harmon Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Church of the Good Shepherd or CHP Home Care and Hospice in Van Wert, Ohio.
