On March 19, 2022, our beloved Chris passed away at home while battling a lengthy illness.
He was born in Lima, Ohio to Ronald and Barbara (Adams) Doty on February 5, 1965 and was welcomed home by big sister Cheryl.
Chris grew up in Columbus Grove and graduated a Bulldog in 1983. He was active in marching band and high school musical productions. He was also a member of General Putnam’s Men Drum and Bugle Corps. He remained a lifelong enthusiast of drum corps competitions.
In 1988, he graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Cincinnati with a B.S. in Finance and Marketing, choosing a career in retail.
His career began at LensCrafters in Dayton, Ohio and then took him to California to work for Target. Then he moved across country again to work for Bed Bath & Beyond in Long Island, New York. Finally he moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he retired from Kohl's. His positions included buyer, sourcing and product development. His talents, skills, and abilities led him to become a Vice President of Product Development at Kohl's. He traveled extensively throughout Europe and Asia. Chris was highly respected by his peers and sought after by leaders in the retail industry.
Chris loved trips to NYC with his cousin Dawn where together they enjoyed trips to modern art museums and Broadway musicals! He also loved the time he spent at the beaches of Fire Island. He was a passionate home decorator and collector of modern art. These are a few things that brought joy to Chris’s life.
He is survived by his life partner, Steve Jones, Columbus, Ohio; mother Barbara Doty, Columbus Grove, Ohio; sister Cheryl Doty (DeAnne Krouse) and nephew Alex Doty, Columbus Ohio. Chris also leaves behind much-loved aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Chris was preceded in death by his father Ronald Doty.
