Ronald K Shafer, age 85, of Columbus Grove passed away peacefully on Friday, July 8 at The Meadows of Ottawa surrounded by his family.
Ron was born January 7, 1937 in Hartsburg, OH to Wilbur J Shafer and Helen M (Tracy) Shafer. He married Patsy A (Carpenter) Shafer on July 9, 1960.
He is survived by his loving wife along with his 3 sons, Brent (Julie) Shafer, Curtis (Shelley) Shafer and Scott Shafer all of Columbus Grove. 7 grandchildren, Jordan (Nichole Johnson) Shafer, Ashtyn (Shawn) Kill, Alex (Hope) Shafer, Brady (Sydney) Shafer, Zach (Taylor Weidner) Shafer, Kylie (Carter Sterling) Shafer and Brock Shafer. 4 Great-grandchildren, Kaiden Kill, Teagan Kill, Gavin Kill and Liam Shafer with one more on the way. Brothers Gary (Joyce) Shafer of Ottawa and Terry (Marlene) Shafer of Defiance.
Ron was a 1955 graduate of Leipsic High School, he served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958. Ron was an owner of The Shafer Pizzeria and retired from Phillips of Ottawa after 35 years. He was an active member of The Columbus Grove Christian Church and held numerous positions on the official board.
Ron enjoyed supporting his grandchildren in their numerous events. He enjoyed playing euchre, cribbage and any other game with his family and friends. Ron was an avid Cleveland Browns fan and had to withstand much heckling from his family.
Ron didn’t know a stranger and was a friend to all he met. He was appreciative of all the love, care and support he received from The Orion Cancer Center, The Meadows of Ottawa and Putnam County Hospice.

Visitation:
Sunday, July 10 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Hartman Sons Funeral Home in Columbus Grove, and 1 hour prior to funeral service at the Columbus Grove Christian Church.
Funeral:
Monday, July 11 at The Columbus Grove Christian Church at 3 p.m. Pastor Geoff Eubank will officiate the service. Burial to follow at Truro Cemetery, Columbus Grove.
