Robert W. “Bob” Gerdeman, 89, was called into the presence of the Lord on November 23, 2021. He was born on April 24, 1932, to Cornelius and Adelia (Klausing) Gerdeman, who both preceded him in death.
Bob was a 1950 graduate of Pandora High School. He entered the U. S. Army where he served in Germany during the Korean Conflict.
Upon returning from the U.S. Army, he married his sweetheart, Jeannine M. (Core) Gerdeman, on June 18, 1955, she survives in Columbus Grove. Bob and his wife, Jeannine, were lifelong dairy farmers and shared the love of baseball. He served as the President of the Putnam and Allen County Dairy Associations.
Bob was a member of the American Legion Post 516 and the VFW Post 9648, both of Columbus Grove. He was a member of St. Anthony Parish where he served both as an usher and as President of the Holy Name Society. He later became a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was an avid sports fan who shared the love of sports with his children and grandchildren. For more than 25 years, Bob and his wife enjoyed attending the Houston Astros Spring Training Camp in Kissimmee, Florida.
Bob is survived by his children, Greg (Brenda Reed) Gerdeman, Gary Gerdeman, Chris (Mike) Diller, Robert Gerdeman, Jr., and Joseph (Shelly Perry) Gerdeman. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Amanda (Pierce) Giboney, Brandon (Kristi) Gerdeman, Kara (Kyle) Helf, Zachary (Brenna) Gerdeman, Paige (Brandon) Hovest, Taylor Gerdeman, Sienna Gerdeman, Gage Gerdeman, Coby Perry and Jared (Abby) Diller; his great-grandchildren Lylah, Nathaniel, Lawson, Christian, Skylar, Collins, Amelia, Charlotte, Bryce, Jackson and Josey along with his brother Tom (Mary) Gerdeman and sister in-law Shirley Core.
He was preceded in death by his son, Steven Gerdeman; daughter in-law, Patricia Gerdeman; brother, Don (Cecelia) Gerdeman and brother in-law, Jack Core.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 27, 2021, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus Grove. Father David Ritchie will officiate. Burial to follow in the St. Anthony’s Church Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by the combined Color Guard of the American Legion and VFW.
Visitation will occur 2:00-8:00 p.m., on Friday, November 26, 2021, and from 9:00-10:00 a.m. on Saturday at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove.
