Mike "Fish" Moening

Mike “Fish” Moening, age 68, passed away on August 4, 2023, at St. Rita’s Hospital.  Mike was born September 17, 1954 in Washington, D.C. to John and Shirley Moening.

Mike is survived by his siblings, Doug (Susan) Moening, Larry Moening, Jeff (Brenda) Moening, Lisa (Jeff) Vance, and Wayne (Sue) Moening. He is also survived by nine nieces and nephews, and nineteen great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his brother John Jr.

Mike, or Fish, as he was known to many was a member of the Sons of The Legion, serving as Past Commander, VFW, Eagles, Jaycees, and an original member of the Survivor’s Car Club.

He was currently serving as the Fiscal Officer for Pleasant Township and has served in that position for over 36 years.  He also worked at The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, Carter Lumber, and ODOT.

Mike spent 51 years in a wheelchair but it never stopped him from leading a very rewarding and fulfilling life. He tackled obstacles with very little hesitation. He was an avid car enthusiast, enjoyed Nascar and most of all enjoyed being with his huge friend network who loved him as their own family. He also competed in State and National wheelchair Olympics in weightlifting, winning silver and gold in multiple competitions.

Friends may call at Hartman Sons Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 from 2-8 pm. A Celebration of Life will be on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at 11 am at the Columbus Grove Christian Church officiated by Pastor Geoff Eubank. Burial to follow at Truro Cemetery.
