Louis Bonifas, age 71, of Columbus Grove passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on March 31, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on May 20, 1952 in Delphos to Art and Alice (Kimmet) Bonifas who survive.
Louie is survived by his loving wife, Roxann (Reindel) Bonifas. They married on April 20, 1974 and were just a few days short of their 50th wedding anniversary. He is survived by his 3 sons: Nathan (Gina) Bonifas, Keith (Tammy) Bonifas, and Cory (Kristen) Bonifas.
He is also survived by his greatest joys, his 9 grandchildren: JJ, Jake, Trent, Grant, Bryce, Caleb, Hadley, Emersyn and Beckett. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Scarlett Bonifas who we know he is in heaven playing with right now, and his in-laws Bernard and Norma (Beining) Reindel whom he thought very highly of.
Louie is also survived by 5 siblings: Mary Lou (Ron) Niemeyer, Jerry (Patti) Bonifas, Steve (Carla) Bonifas, Sue (Kevin) Sigler, and Laurie (Ted) Brenneman and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Louie was a 1970 graduate of Delphos St. Johns High School. He was well respected for his knowledge and work ethic while working in the automotive industry as a tool and die maker, and later obtaining his Mechanical Engineering degree working as a Tooling Manager at Orick Industries. Louie was a member of St. Anthony’s Church and was a committed supporter of Columbus Grove and Delphos St. John's schools.
He loved spending time watching his grandkids activities and was always their greatest supporter. He also enjoyed watching the Bengals and partaking in good hearted banter with his grandkids over OSU vs. Michigan as he was a die hard Michigan fan.
If he wasn’t at an event, he could be found working on projects around the house or helping anyone who asked. He was a master of home projects and loved being able to use his skills to problem solve and help those he loved. As he eased into retirement, he enjoyed spending time at the campgrounds with loved ones, traveling and meeting new people, and spending time on the beach.
Memorial donations may be made to Columbus Grove School, St. Anthony’s Parish, Delphos St. John’s School, or Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus. The family would like to acknowledge Putnam County Home Care and Hospice for their service with special thanks to Jill Sargent, and Pastor Louis Reindel for always being there with comforting words and spiritual support.
