Loretta Bell (Renner) Martin

Columbus Grove, Ohio

Loretta Bell (Renner) Martin, 87, died at 5:10 a.m., on Thursday, January 7, 2021, at the Meadows of Kalida.  She was born June 20, 1933, in Gomer to Otis and Laura (Dangler) Renner.  They both preceded her in death.

On July 25, 1952, she married John M. Martin. who preceded her death on June 22, 2000.

Loretta is survived by her four sons, Timothy L. (Sherri) Martin of Morrow, Ohio, Douglas L. (Sarah) Martin, Don R. (Eileen) Martin and Alan L. (Karen) Martin, all of Columbus Grove; six grandchildren, Casey (Pete) Honkomp, Ben Martin, Kate Martin, Greg Martin, Thomas Martin, and Liz Martin; two great grandchildren, Alaina and Natalie Honkomp; and her sister June Sloan of Vaughnsville.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Cynthia Martin; two brothers, Alex and Marvin Renner and two sisters, Clara Ellen Archer and Dolly Hitchcock.

Loretta was a graduate of Gomer High School.  Upon graduation, she worked several jobs including the candy store in Columbus Grove, along with the restaurant and the Sylvania plant during the war efforts.  Later in life she provided child care out of her home for many years.

She had a full and busy life raising four sons, along with caring for the beautiful home that she and her husband built in Columbus Grove.  She was a fantastic cook, kept an immaculate house, loved to bake, enjoyed sewing, gardening, and traveling while she could.  Loretta took great pleasure in meeting her sons' friends.  But most of all, she loved spending time with her family, friends and especially her grandchildren.

Loretta was a woman to be remembered for her wonderful smile and could always be counted on to lend a hand when help was needed, often doing without so others could have.  She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, where she helped supervise the nursery for many years and she also volunteered as room mother while her sons attended elementary school.  She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

Services will begin at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove.  Pastor Kathleen Hayes will officiate with burial to follow in Truro Cemetery, Columbus Grove.

Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m., on Monday, January 11, 2021 at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove.
