LaVern Hover

LaVern Hover, 77, died on February 4, 2022, at St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima, Ohio.  He was born on December 21, 1944, in Harrod, Ohio, to Scott and Martha (Zimmerman) Hover who preceded him in death.

On November 18, 1967, he married Sue Jones who died on March 2, 2020.

LaVern is survived by one son Kevin (Carrie) Hover of Columbus, Ohio, and one daughter Angie Hover, Lima, Ohio, along with three grandchildren; Meredith Hover, Chloe Hover, and Sarah Fenstermaker.  He was preceded in death by sisters Naomi Robbins and Glenna Mae Kriewald and his brother Charles Hover.

LaVern was a graduate of Harrod High School, class of 1962.  Shortly after high school, LaVern worked on the railroad and then was employed at Westinghouse/Sunstran and Aeroquip where he retired in 2009.

LaVern was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church and served in many roles.  He also volunteered at the Lima Rescue Mission, where he served food and shared devotionals.  He was a devoted husband to Sue for over fifty years.  He was an amazing father raising his children in the faith, and he loved watching his grandchildren in all their activities.  He also loved getting together for breakfast with his friends.  Some of his hobbies and interests included: Ohio State football, classic cars, horses, whitewater rafting, canoeing, and photography.

Services will begin at 11:00a.m. Thursday, February 10, 2022, at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Columbus Grove.  Pastor Kyle Thain presiding.  Burial will follow at West Newton Cemetery. 

Friends may call from 2-4p.m. and from 6-8p.m. on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Hartman Sons Funeral Home in Columbus Grove, and from 10 – 11a.m. on Thursday prior to the service at St. John’s United Methodist Church.

The family requests any memorial contributions be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church, the Lima Rescue Mission, or Stand for Truth Ministries, PO Box 1179, Hilliard, Ohio 43206. 

Due to health concerns masks are encouraged but not required.
