Delphos, Ohio
Kathy Smith, 75, of Delphos passed away Friday, February 11, 2022. She was born October 30, 1946, to Howard and Helen (Barnes) Metzger, who preceded her in death.
On September 3, 1967, he married Clyde “Ed” Smith of Columbus Grove. They were married for 47 years, before Ed passed away in 2014.
She was a 1964 graduate of Columbus Grove High School, where she was the head majorette and cheerleader. Upon graduation, she attended Ohio Northern University and obtained a nursing degree.
Kathy spent time at Lima Memorial Hospital on the OB-GYN ward before finding her true calling working with special needs students. Kathy spent more than 30 years at Marimor School in Allen County, where she touched countless lives among the staff and students. She was one of the lucky ones, who indeed found a way to make a living doing what she loved most.
Survivors include two sons, Marc (Melisa) Smith of Spencerville and Jeff (Dawn Moore) Smith of Las Vegas, NV; sister and brother-in-law, Bob (Sue) Huth of Findlay; and sisters-in-law, Ethel Maag and Patsy Smith of Columbus Grove. Her beloved grandchildren include Trey( Alexis) Smith of Rapid City, SD; Trysten Smith of Spencerville; Colin and Addison Smith and Zachary and Madeleine Moore all of Las Vegas, NV.
In related news, Jesus has announced that Heaven has a new Head Majorette. Those who were lucky enough to see Kathy Smith spin that baton…then cartwheel into a high-step…are not surprised. Terms of her record-breaking contract have not been publicly released. But it’s no secret she demanded a walk-in closet capable of storing 2,000 outfits with matching purses.
Kathy will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all the countless students she helped in her time on earth. She didn’t want a special service and requested cremation in place of a traditional burial. On the hospital paperwork…next to “Funeral Home Choice”… she wrote “whatever’s cheapest!”
She would have never wanted flowers, but she would have loved for ANYONE so inclined to donate in her name to: Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities, 2500 Ada Road, Lima, Ohio 45801.
