Karl S. Stechschulte, 89, died Thursday, October 14, 2021, at his home near Columbus Grove. He was born July 4, 1932, in Columbus Grove, to Frank and Margaret (Kiene) Stechschulte.
On April 7, 1953, he married Blanche T. Schroeder. She survives near Columbus Grove.
Karl is survived by two sons, Kenneth (Doris) Stechschulte of Kalida and Donald (Diana) Stechschulte of Columbus Grove; one daughter, Mary (Doug) Langhals of Columbus Grove; two daughters in-law, Tracy (Paul Woodruff) Stechschulte of Bowling Green, Mary Ann Stechschulte of Glandorf; 23 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Mary (Wayne) Sutter of Mt. Horeb, WI and Jean Schulte of Pandora; two brothers, Joe Stechschulte, and Jerry (Paula) Stechschulte all of Columbus Grove; four sisters in-law, Margaret Stechschulte of Columbus Grove, Ruth Ann Stechschulte of Ottawa. Betty Stechschulte of Ottawa, and Mary Lou Stechschulte of Columbus Grove; one brother in-law, William (Kathy) Eversole of Columbus Grove.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Wayne Stechschulte and Dennis Stechschulte; one sister, Marguerite “Nook” Eversole; seven brothers, Robert (Agnes), Maurice “Moe”, Harry, Patrick (Sharon), Francis (Dora), John and David Stechschulte; one sister in-law Judy Stechschulte and one brother in-law, Ed Schulte.
Karl was a graduate of Columbus Grove High School, class of 1950. He was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus # 9788. He served on the St. Anthony’s School Board for six years and served 12 years on the Columbus Grove School Board.
He was a member of the Ottawa Eagles, Aerie #2234, and a member of the Putnam County Farm Bureau, where he served on the Board. Karl was a director of the Cairo Elevator Board for many years. He and his wife, Blanche, were both volunteers for 12 years at St. Rita’s Medical Center and they distributed communion at St. Anthony’s Church and at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora, for over 30 years. Karl enjoyed restoring old Allis Chalmers Tractors and had shown them in many parades.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Columbus Grove. Father David Ritchie will officiate with burial to follow in St. Anthony Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 18, 2021 and 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove. A Scripture service will be held at the end of visitation on Tuesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to Putnam County Council on Aging, Putnam County Home Care and Hospice or St. Anthony’s School Endowment Fund.
