Joseph John Schmidt

Joseph John Schmidt, 79, died at 7:24 p.m.,  Monday, January 18, 2021, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima, Ohio.  He was born July 26, 1941, in Continental, Ohio, to Charles and Mary (King) Schmidt, who preceded him in death.

On March 26, 1960, he married Carolyn K. Baker. They celebrated 60 years of marriage this past year.

Joseph is survived by his two sons, Don and Steve Schmidt; two granddaughters, Kara and Megan Schmidt; two sisters, Nancy Meuleman and Barbara (Pete) Sybert and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother in-law, Jerry Meuleman.

Joe was a graduate of Vaughnsville High School, after which, he began farming and loved being a life long farmer.  He had worked for Ford Motor Company, Lima Engine Plant, retiring after 32 years.

He loved supporting the local farm children in their 4-H projects, including his sons and granddaughters.  His livestock interests were centered around cattle, horses and sheep.

Services will begin at 2:00 pm, Thursday, January 21, 2021, at Hartman Sons Funeral Home.  Pastor Jim Klausing will officiate with burial to follow in Pike Run Cemetery, Gomer, Ohio.

Visitation will be from 12:00pm until time of service, Thursday, January 21, 2021, at Hartman Sons Funeral Home.
