Joseph F Fuerst

Columbus Grove, Ohio

Joseph F. Fuerst, 92, died Friday, May 14, 2021, at The Meadows of Ottawa.  He was born October 26, 1928, in Columbus Grove, to the late Amos A. and Teresa A. (Birkemeier) Fuerst. 

On May 28, 1952, he married Esther A. Schroeder, who preceded him on January 25, 2014. 

Joe is survived by his two sons, Leonard V. Fuerst of Columbus Grove and Francis “Fritz” Fuerst of Shawnee; two daughters, Marilyn A. (Patrick) Heyneman of Aurora, CO and Elaine M. (Joseph) Gibson of Bluffton; nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one brother, Thomas “Tom” Fuerst; five sisters, Agnes Parker, Margaret (Bill) Weber, Norma Jean Lisota, Mary Fuerst and Irene Biederman; two brothers in-law, Stephen Schroeder and August Schroeder; two sisters in-law, Dorothy Fuerst and Margaret Palte along with several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amber Heyneman; brothers, Wilfred and Virgil; sisters, Dorothy (Stephen) Diehl and Martha (Samuel) Davis and a sister in-law, Joyce Fuerst. 

Joe had worked for IMCO, Co., formerly of Columbus Grove and he also worked for the Beverdam Elevator Services.  He was a member of St. Anthony Church, Columbus Grove and had been a member of Columbus Grove VFW, Post 9648. Joe enjoyed playing cards (euchre and solo), and taking his wife to play Bingo, which he would usually joined into the game also. 

Services will begin at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at St. Anthony Church, Columbus Grove.  Father David Ritchie will officiate with burial to follow in the Church cemetery. 

Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove, where a Rosary will be conducted at the end of visitation. 

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony School Endowment Fund.
