John Richard Sharrits, age 79, passed away peacefully February 9, 2022, at St Rita’s Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born on November 9, 1942, in Lima, Ohio to Richard (Pete) and Grace (Reese) Sharrits who both preceded him in death.
John married the love of his life, Joyce (Siefker) on August 13, 2001.
John is survived by sons: Jeff (Cindy) Sharrits of Carson City, Nevada, Greg (Deb) Sharrits of Concord, Ohio, Jason Sharrits of Crestview Hills, Kentucky, Ryan Sharrits of Columbus Grove, Ohio, Joe (Kelly) Sharrits of Chesapeake, Virginia, Joshua (Kate) Moore of Columbus Grove, Ohio and Tony (Kristi) Moore of Sanford, North Carolina. Also surviving are grandchildren Jimmy (Brooke) Sharrits, Michael Sharrits, Lori Schwinnen, Dena Earley, Bailey (Cody) McElroy, Jensen Sharrits, Taylor Sharrits, Bryce Sharrits, Rayne Sharrits, Karli Sharrits, Brenna Sharrits, Kyle Sharrits, Anne Moore, Nora Moore, Edie Moore, and Stevie Moore. His great grandchildren are Desiree, Alex, Ryleigh, Isabelle, Elliana, Ayla, Andrew, Mathew and Everlee. And one great great grandchild, Henrick.
Also surviving are his brothers, Robert (Linda) Sharrits and Russell (Pat) Sharrits both of Columbus Grove, Ohio. His sisters and brother in laws, Marilyn (John) Siefker, Denny (Deb) Siefker, Diane (Ken) Cooper, Ron (Angie) Siefker, Gene (Ruth) Siefker, Bill (Janet) Siefker, Karen (Bill) Niese and Linda (Timmer) Schroeder. He is preceded in death by his brother, David (Carol) Sharrits.
John was retired from E.J. Meyer Construction. He attended Gomer Elementary and graduated from Vaughnsville School in 1960. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Union and American Truck Historical Society. He enjoyed his antique tractors and Peterbilt Trucks along with trap shooting. John was a very gifted mechanic and fabricator.
Visitation will be on Saturday, February 12, from 2pm to 8pm at Hartman Son Funeral Home in Columbus Grove, Ohio. Services will begin at 1:00 pm on February 13, at Hartman Son Funeral Home.
A graveside service and Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Gomer Pike Run Cemetery.
