John E Hoyt Sr

John E. Hoyt, age 84, died at his home on May 1, 2023.  He was born on July 10, 1938, to Charles E. and Dorthea (Ellerbrock) Hoyt. On September 7, 1959, he married Virginia R. Hoorman who survives.

John drove truck for thirty years and was a member of the Teamsters.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wapakoneta; Knights of Columbus, Sacristan and led Rosary for fifteen years.  John was a member of the Master Gardeners; Scout Master in Columbus Grove and a District Commissioner of Scouting, a US Navy veteran, and a graduate of Columbus Grove High School class of 1956.

John is survived by three sons and two daughters: Charles (Kirsten) Hoyt, Ocala, FL; John Hoyt, Montezuma, OH; Andrew (Carla) Hoyt, Elizabeth, CO; Carolyn (Bernard) Willey, New Martinsville, WV; Dianna (James) McKee, Wapakoneta.  Also surviving are his brother Charles Hoyt, Paulding, and sisters Shirley Duling, Leipsic, Janet Kirby, Columbus, Patricia (Dennis) Pollock, Van Wert, and sisters-in-law Marie Hoyt, Ottawa, Joanne Hoyt, Columbus Grove, and Carol Hoyt, Columbus Grove.  John is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by brothers Donald, Richard, Thomas, Eugene, and Dennis, his sisters Geraldine (Paul) Thompson and Lou Ann (George) Miller, one granddaughter Sasha Hoyt, and sister-in-law Laura Hoyt and brother-in-law Alvin Duling.

Friends may call at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove, on Friday, May 12, 2023, from 4:00 to 8:00pm.  Funeral services will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Columbus Grove, on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 10:00am, Father David Ritchie presiding.  Burial to follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
