Joe Bunn Obituary

Columbus Grove, Ohio

Joe A. Bunn, 77, passed away suddenly on September 3, 2021, at his home in Columbus Grove.  Joe was born December 30, 1943, in Lima, to Raymond Arnett and Naomi (Rimer) Bunn.  His parents preceded him in death, along with his grandparents, Issac and Anna (Hildebrand) Bunn and Claude and Eletta (Fruchey) Rimer.

Joe was a lifelong resident of the village of Columbus Grove, he was an avid Bulldog.  As a Bulldog, Joe played sports in high school, was active in school plays and during his school days he would sneak down to the cafeteria where his mother was a cook.  Joe had prefect attendance during his entire 12 years of school.  He graduated with the class of 1962.  Joe’s high school friendships lasted a lifetime.  He will be missed at the class luncheons and alumni events.  During his adult life, Joe seldom missed a Bulldog home or away basketball or football game.

He will be deeply missed by his morning coffee crew, his golf buddies (especially Bud) at the Bluffton Golf Course, and his bowling teams.  Joe has bowled on the same team since September 1964.  Bluffton Golf Course will miss his call to get the 1st tee time.

On July 22, 1967, Joe and Carol Fortman married at the Columbus Grove Christian Church; the church that they both attended, were baptized and confirmed.  Joe is survived by his wife; he deeply loved his children, Greg Allen Bunn and daughter Jodi Lynn (Dale Paul) Niese.  Joe adored his grandchildren, Shelby Jean (Brock) Reynolds and Clayton Joseph Niese.  Joe is survived by his brother Jerry Bunn along with his children Mark, Julie and their families.  Also surviving is his beloved aunt Lois Pierce and her family.  He will be missed by his in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.

Following high school, Joe was a 1964 graduate of Northwestern Business College, (now UNOH).  The day following his graduation, he started his job at Superior Coach Corporation in Lima.  From March 5, 1964, until the day of his death, Joe worked at Superior Coach, with almost a perfect attendance.  He was the Vice President of Sales Distribution.  Joe was known as “Mr. Superior”, a term that spoke volumes for the person he was and his work ethic. He was passionate about the funeral car industry and absolutely loved his job; that enthusiasm continued his entire 57-year career.  When working with Superior Coach employees, dealers and customers, Joe treated everyone with upmost respect, his motto was “always tell the truth”.  His relationships in the funeral car industry were most often generations of families in the dealership network, funeral home industry and the professional car industry.

In remembrance of Joe, his wishes would be, for you to be the best person you can be, always tell the people you love that they are loved, and donate to the charities that mean the most to you.
