Herbert C. Griffith, 92, passed away at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora, on May 3, 2022. He was born on December 20, 1929, to Walter F. and Pearl (Whittridge) Griffith who both preceded him in death.
He married Helen Washak who survives in Pandora.
Herb is survived by his grandchildren Bradley and Kristina Griffith, and step-grandsons Derek (Rhonda) Warren and Jeremy (Krystal) Warren. He was preceded in death by his sons John and Dwight Griffith and step-son Vince Warren.
Herb was a graduate of Vaughnsville High School and attended The Ohio State University for one year prior to enlistment in the Air Force in 1948. Herb served in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict as an Airman 2nd Class. He served 11-months in England, and 3-years in Japan. While stationed in Japan, Herb flew in the Korean combat area many times. He was a first-rate mechanic, working on the B-50 Superfortress aircraft. Herb was honorably discharged in 1955 as a Staff Sargeant.
Herb spent years volunteering as a Scout leader in the Putnam District, eventually serving as Scoutmaster of Troop 226. Herb and his wife Helen received the District Award of Merit for Community Service in 1980.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove, from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. A luncheon will be held at the Columbus Grove VFW at Noon following the services.
