Herbert Carpenter

Herbert L. Carpenter, 86, died August 18th, 2023, at St. Rita’s Mercy Health, Lima, Ohio, surrounded by his family. Herb was born September 11, 1936, in Putnam County, the son of Harry L. and Ermah H. (Gebhardt) Carpenter, who both preceded in death.

Also preceding him in death were his son, Randy Carpenter, his daughter, Julie Bormuth, and his brother-in-law, Bobby Gray. He is survived by his sisters, Dorothy Gray and Ruth (Richard) Beidelschies, brothers Tom (Carolyn) Carpenter, Jim (Marlene) Carpenter, Calvin (Patty) Carpenter, two step grandchildren, Jon and David Bormuth, and three step great grandchildren, daughter-in-law Effy Carpenter, and son-in-law Brad Bormuth.

Growing up in Columbus Grove, he attended and was a graduate of the Columbus Grove School, class of 1954. Herb met the love of his life, Dallice Newman, they married July 3rd, 1959, and she survives him.

Herb enjoyed, and was an avid fan of Columbus Grove Football. He also enjoyed playing golf at the Bluffton Golf Club and the Hidden Creek Golf Club. Fishing trips with family and friends were always a relaxing “get away” in Canada, on Rice Lake.

Friends may call at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove on Sunday, August 20, 2023 from 2 until 4 pm and 6 until 8 pm, as well as on Monday, August 21, 2023 from 11:00 am until time of service at 12 noon. Services will be conducted by Rev. Gary Hohman. Burial will follow at Truro Cemetery.  A Celebration of Life luncheon will be held following the burial at the Columbus Grove Christian Church.
