Gwendoline M. "Gwen" Smith, 92, died Sunday, January 24, 2021, at Lima Memorial Hospital, Lima, Ohio. She was born June 14, 1928, in Weston Super Mare, Somerset, England, to Frank Sylvester and Florence Mary (Slipper) Cox.
Gwen met her husband to be, Norman Smith, who was in the U. S. Air Force stationed in England during the Korean Conflict. They were united in marriage on November 20, 1954, in England. He preceded her in death on November 9, 2009.
Upon completion of Norman's military service, he and Gwen settled in Columbus Grove before making their forever home in Pandora, Ohio. She was employed at Basinger Builders, where she did interior painting. Gwen was a homemaker, enjoying gardening, and most especially, she enjoyed her family and the company of her dogs and "granddogs".
Gwen is survived by a son, David (Judie) Smith, Pandora; her daughter, Lesley (Ron) Peck, Kalida; a daughter in-law, Tammy Smith, Columbus Grove; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother in-law, Oliver Dixon in Nottingham, England, and sister in-law, Doreen, Cox in Norfolk, England.
Preceding her in death was a son, Gary Smith, who died April 17, 2014; two brothers, Philip and Michael Cox and one sister, Cynthia Dixon.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 28, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., when the funeral services will begin at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove. Pastor Jim Klausing will officiate with burial to follow in Truro West Cemetery, Columbus Grove.
The family would like to thank the staff at both the Meadows of Kalida and Lima Memorial Hospital, for the care and kindness shown to Gwen while in their care.
