Columbus Grove, Ohio
On Friday morning, June 4, 2021, Gordon Wayne Ridenour joined his oldest son, Jim, in Heaven for a game of basketball.
Gord was born on December 2, 1947, to Glen and Sue (Core) Ridenour. He was a loving son and stopped to visit his mother daily on his way home from work.
Gord attended Vaughnsville School and graduated from Columbus Grove High School, class of 1966. After High School, he attended Northwestern Business College, graduating with a Business Degree.
He served in the U. S. Army, during the Vietnam Era before he married Patti Halker on January 24, 1970. They shared over 51 years together. He was a loving husband.
He had a son, James Wayne Ridenour, who preceded him in death. Gord has a son, Scott (Callie) Ridenour and a daughter, Shara Lyn (Opey) Roeder. He supported his children in everything they did starting by coaching his boys on the Vaughnsville Viking Little League baseball to watching Scott play college baseball. From football, basketball, and baseball with the boys, to cheerleading, cross-country, track, and gymnastics with Shara, Gord could always be found cheering from the top row with his wife, Patti. They continued to support the Bulldogs over the years.
The Ridenours were blessed with five grandchildren. Gord loved spending his summer days by the pool watching Jade, Jena, Nolan, Weston, and Anna swim. He created a home his family did not need a vacation from.
Gord is survived by his brother, Bob (Linda) Ridenour. It was always good to know his brother was only a phone call away. He is also survived by brothers and sisters in-law, Bob (Phyl) Halker, Bonnie (Mike) Gertsen, Dave (Vicky) Halker, Tom (Sally) Halker, Cindy (Tony) Hovest, and Sherry (Troy) King, along with many loving nieces and nephews.
The Lima Refinery was Gord’s second home for 38 years. He was a dedicated worker for Sohio, B.P., Clark, Premcor, Valero, and Husky. He was a member of the VFW Post 9648 and the American Legion Post 516, both of Columbus Grove.
He enjoyed many carefree days riding his Harley Davidson, watching the Ohio State Buckeyes, and The Reds. He was a true family man, always spending time with his children, grandchildren, and extended family.
Private family services will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Columbus Grove. Father David Ritchie will officiate with burial to follow in Truro Cemetery, Columbus Grove.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Vaughnsville Athletic Association or to St. Anthony’s School.
