Donald L. Siefker, 64, passed away on Saturday July 10, 2021 at his residence in Columbus Grove surrounded by loved ones.He was born October 17, 1956 in Lima, to Robert J. and Clara G. (Schmiedebusch) Siefker. They preceded him in death.
On July 31, 1982, he married his loving wife, Laura A. Kahle and she survives near Columbus Grove.
Don attended St. Anthony School and was a graduate of Columbus Grove High School, class of 1975. He graduated from Ohio Northern University, class of 1979, with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was an electrical engineer with the former Philips ECG, Ottawa until it closed in 2002. He retired from Whirlpool in Ottawa in 2019. Don also enjoyed working on the family farm.
Don was devoted to his faith and was called to serve. He became a Deacon of the Catholic Church when he was ordained at the Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral in Toledo on September 16, 2017. He had the joy of serving St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Columbus Grove, where he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was blessed with four daughters, Katherine (David) Lozar, Melissa (Andrew) Schnipke, Andrea (Sean) Weiss, and Jessica Siefker. He had seven loving grandchildren, Logan and Hailey Lozar, Robert, Alexis, and Makenzie Schnipke, and Carter and Lauren Weiss. He was also survived by his in-laws Thomas Vennekotter, Catherine Kahle, Robert (Jane) Kahle, David (Jane) Kahle, Thomas Kahle, Joan (Glen) Koenig, Kathleen (Jack) Runner, J. Ken (Carol) Kahle, Glenn (Theresa) Kahle, Mark (Marlene) Kahle, along with many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Karen Vennekotter, and his father-in-law, John Kahle.
Mass of Resurrection will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida. Fr. Mark Hoying, Very Rev. David L. Ritchie, Fr. Charles Obinwa, Fr. Elmer Wurth, and Rev. Monsignor Walter W. Oxley will officiate with burial to follow in St. Anthony Church Cemetery, Columbus Grove.
Visitation will begin with The Reception of Don’s Body at 2:00 pm, followed by visitation until 8:00pm on Friday, July 16, 2021, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida, where a Rosary service will be recited at the close of visitation. There will also be visitation Saturday, July 17, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. until time of the funeral service.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony of Padua Parish in memory of Deacon Don Siefker.
