Vaughnsville, Ohio
Donald Lynn “Don” Partin, 73, passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at his residence in Vaughnsville, Ohio. He was born on June 27, 1948, in Lima, Ohio, to Troy and Marie (Westbrook) Partin. They both preceded him in death.
While in Elementary School, Don, his parents and big brother Ron, moved from Lima to a farm near Kalida. It was in Kalida that Don first met the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, the former Mary Brickner. The couple married on July 22, 1967, and would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary this year. Mary survives in Vaughnsville.
Don is survived by his three daughters, Michelle (Brian) Benko of Littleton, Colorado, Laurie (Clete) Nartker of Vaughnsville and Denise Partin of Medford, Oregon; his six grandchildren, Alexis, Dilynn, Madelyn, Isabella Nartker and Troy, Kate Benko and one great grandson, John. He is also survived by his brother Ronald (Jan) Partin of Hendersonville, North Carolina; his half-brother, Morris Bussell along with several nieces and nephews.
He was mechanically inclined and inherited his parents’ do-it-yourself spirit. He built his own home in Vaughnsville and kept the assembly lines running at Clark Equipment Company and Cooper Tire & Rubber. He retired from the maintenance department at Cooper in 2005.
Don taught himself to play the guitar and dobro, and after retirement, he attended many jams throughout Northwest Ohio. For many years, he hosted a well-attended jam at the Vaughnsville Community Center, and later, the Columbus Grove Legion. We will never know if it was Don’s musical talents or Mary’s delicious pies that drew so many attendees. He and Mary met several close friends at the jams, most notably, Helen Ralston and Harold Mull.
Visitation will be from Noon-3:00 pm on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove. Services will begin at 3:00 p.m.. Father Mark Hoying will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Putnam County HomeCare and Hospice, in appreciation of their kindness, compassion, and care they provided Don in his final weeks.
