Donald J "Jim" Fortman

Donald J. “Jim” Fortman Jr., age 74, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at the Cleveland Clinic. He was born in Lima, Ohio on February 27, 1948 to Donald J. and Wilma J. (Anderson) Fortman who preceded him in death.

Jim is survived by sons Clinton and Kurt, daughter Tracy (Albert) Morales, Heather Wood and Melissa Terry. He is also survived by sisters Carol Bunn, Charol Stechschulte, Linda (Denny) Montgomery, and Christine (Dana) Schoenleb, grandchildren Colton Spath, Avery Morales, Alana Morales, Tatyana Aguirre, and Adorian Aguirre, great grandchild Zamaya Aguirre and many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by sister Kathy DeCamp Miller, nephew Mark Stechschulte, brother in law Joe Bunn and son in law Chris Terry.

Jim attended and graduated from Columbus Grove High School, class of 1966. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1968 and served in Vietnam. Shortly after returning home from Vietnam he began his career at Proctor & Gamble, Lima, Ohio where he worked almost 40 years.

Jim enjoyed target shooting, he was a member of the Cairo Sportsmen’s club and the Black Swamp Rifle & Pistol club of Delphos, Ohio. He liked to play pool, was a great outdoor griller of chicken and he loved working on, tinkering with, and driving his 1932 Pierce Arrow vintage car. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and playing with his grandchildren, who were his “sunshine”. Jim was fortunate to have had two very supportive lady friends in his life. Jennifer Wood, who passed away in 2010 and later he met Sally Rowe who preceded him in death also.

Friends may call at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove, on Friday, October 28, 2022, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Services will begin at 11:00am on Saturday, October 29th. Pastor Rich Rakay presiding. Burial will be at Truro Cemetery.
