Audrey June Ruthman- August 31, 1933 to February 20, 2023
Audrey June Ruthman (née Schumaker), of West Chester, OH, passed away at the age of 89 on February 20, 2023 following a brave fight with cancer.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Thomas R. Ruthman, parents Herbert and Alice Schumaker, and brothers Eugene, Joseph, William, and Claude. She is survived by her children by marriage Thomas G. Ruthman (Anjou), Julia Angeles (Joey) and Theresa Schneider (Eric), eleven beloved grandchildren, brother Herbert Jr. (Aggie) Schumaker, and sisters Gladys Reese (Gary), Evelyn Schroeder (Norm), Ruth Wannamacher (James, deceased), Blanche Giesige (Jim), Sharon Hayden (Tom), and Sheila Thornton (David).
Born in 1933 in Columbus Grove, Ohio, Audrey attended Saint Anthony’s Catholic School. Upon graduation she served with the Sisters of the Precious Blood in Dayton, Ohio. Following her time with the sisters, she continued to serve the Church she loved as a secretary and cook for Archbishop Leibold in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.
She married Thomas Ruthman on March 17, 1979 at the Cathedral of Saint Peter in Chains in Cincinnati, Ohio. Together they were great supporters of various Catholic charities in the diocese. One of their proudest accomplishments was the renovation of 36 chapels.
The family will receive visitors at Hartman Sons Funeral Home (Columbus Grove, OH), on Friday, February 24 from 4-8 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, February 25 at Saint Anthony Church in Columbus Grove, OH, with burial to immediately follow at St. Anthony Cemetery. A luncheon at St. Anthony Church will follow the graveside service. For those who cannot attend the Columbus Grove services, a memorial service will be held at St. Gertrude Church in Cincinnati (details to be announced).
