Peg Humphreys

... was born Margaret Celia Seely on September 26 1928, to Alma (Burkdorf) and the Rev. Ray Seely in St. Johnsville, NY, the second of five children: Pat (Don Mitchell), Peg, Preston (Marge), George (Jan), and Bob.  She looked forward to meeting her friendly maker as she passed into God’s gentle welcome on September 14, 2019.

The family moved to Columbus Grove in 1942 when Ray was called to the Congregational Church. Peg graduated from CGHS in the Class of ’47. When the family moved to Barberton in 1948, Peg stayed behind and worked at the local movie theater (remember that?) and for Stanley Goodwin’s insurance office in the trolley car a few doors down from the Humphreys and Son furniture store.  On August 27, 1950, Peg married the “and Son” Walter. She  celebrated her life’s dream of parenting: Bill (Laura Loving), Betty (Barry Hunlock), David (Rayola Risner), George (Audrey), and Annette.

Peg was preceded in death by Walter in 1990, then sister, Pat, and brother, George; she is survived by her brothers, Preston and Bob, her 5 children, 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She is remembered by family members for her care for her family and for others, for her interest in and support of their education and careers, and for her work in the life of the church and community interests.

Peg’s Memorial Service is scheduled for Thursday, September 26, her 91st birthday, at Turner Hall, formerly the First Presbyterian Church where she spent a lot of her time and energy. Family members will be present there, at 210 S. High St. in Columbus Grove at 10:00 am to greet visitors prior to the 11:00 a.m. worship service. Burial will follow next to Walter at the Truro Cemetery, and then some food, family and conversation back at Turner Hall.
